Anne’s Open House

Home > Educators > Newsletters

Anne Hutton recently showcased her service at an open house, demonstrating some ideas for creating learning areas that stimulate and inspire creativity and curiosity.  Anne provided an example of a quiet cosy area that encourages children to relax and engage in independent or small group play, and interest tables that focus on individual children’s interests as well as the groups.

Anne set up a “car and truck play area” using artificial turf to represent grass, baskets to create the garages and balsa wood to create the road. The coloured table provides opportunities to expand on colour awareness, mathematical concepts such as patterns, numbers and size comparisons. These areas are simple, affordable, visually appealing and invite children to engage
